Case Study
Transforming accounts receivables with AI-driven process intelligence, unlocking $1.7M in savings
OUR CLIENT
UST is a leading multinational digital transformation company serving the world’s largest enterprises across cloud, cybersecurity, data, and AI. With more than 30,000 employees in 30+ countries, UST routinely pilots new methodologies internally to de-risk outcomes before client rollouts.
THE CHALLENGE
Streamlining AR to bolster working capital
Like many global enterprises operating across multiple systems and business units, UST’s AR processes showed natural variability that limited end-to-end visibility. These dynamics made it harder to rapidly identify upstream billing issues, align collections actions, and fully optimize working capital. This situation presented a clear opportunity to compress DSO and standardize automation.
THE TRANSFORMATION
Using finance process intelligence to pinpoint problematic processes
UST’s Process Advisory and Consulting Services ran a 4-week finance process-intelligence pilot internally to validate the approach before client rollouts, using Celonis Process Mining to:
- Discover—Visualized the invoice-to-cash flow across systems, customers, and regions; quantified friction and automation hotspots
- Prioritize—Built a value tree to rank interventions by impact and effort (precision collections, billing quality fixes, exception handling)
- Act—Launched targeted collection plays across the top 75 customers, standardized upstream remediations, and removed or automated low-value steps
- Track—Deployed role-based dashboards (executive, analyst, business user) and instituted weekly value tracking to sustain gains
The model proved to be a pragmatic and high-impact approach to financial transformation. By leveraging Celonis for rapid process intelligence, the team moved from opaque operations to targeted, data-driven actions in just four weeks. The model not only identified critical friction points and automation gaps but also delivered measurable improvements through prioritized interventions, streamlined processes, and role-based performance tracking.
THE IMPACT
Improving cash flow performance with more than $1.7 million in measurable impact
The rapid pilot project delivered fast, quantifiable gains by turning process intelligence into focused action. UST’s Process Advisory and Consulting Services results spanned working capital, cost reduction, and strategic AR transformation, generating these impressive results:
- $700,000 improvement in working capital—driven by a 2-day DSO reduction
- $920,000 in collections recovered—via precision strategies across the top 75 customers
- $100,000 reduction in operating costs—by eliminating 20% of manual AR steps and redeploying staff to higher-value work
The total realized impact equaled more than $1.7 million. Beyond the numbers, AR shifted from a reporting function to a source of foresight that accelerates decisions, improves customer experiences, and supports UST’s growth agenda.
