Case Study
Transforming testing operations for Indonesia’s largest financial institution
OUR CLIENT
Headquartered in Jakarta, the client is Indonesia's leading financial institution, offering comprehensive banking and financial services to individuals, businesses, and government entities. With a strong focus on digital innovation and customer service, the bank is dedicated to driving economic growth and fostering financial inclusion across Indonesia and its international markets. The bank employs nearly 40,000 people and operates more than 2,000 branch bank locations.
THE CHALLENGE
Addressing inefficiencies and delays in testing operations due to lack of standardization and expertise
The client was grappling with significant inefficiencies in its testing operations. The absence of standardized testing processes, coupled with a testing team that heavily relied on development for domain knowledge, led to frequent late-stage defect discovery and delays. The organization recognized the urgent need for a robust testing framework and a skilled team to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality products and services.
THE TRANSFORMATION
Transforming testing operations with comprehensive standardization and advanced tools
UST stepped in to overhaul the client’s testing operations with a comprehensive testing transformation program. We established a dedicated testing team with clearly defined roles and responsibilities and introduced standardized testing templates and processes for consistency and efficiency. By leveraging industry best practices and tools, such as HP ALM, JIRA, HP LoadRunner, and MDM Testing (IBM Infosphere), we implemented a robust end-to-end testing framework covering system integrations, performance testing, user acceptance testing (UAT), and data quality management.
A key aspect of our approach was developing user reference guides, which significantly reduced the testing team’s dependency on development for domain knowledge. Additionally, we implemented a metrics framework to track key performance indicators (KPIs) and automate reporting, enhancing visibility and accountability across the testing process.
THE IMPACT
Significant improvements in testing efficiency and quality post-transformation
The transformation of the client’s testing operations yielded these significant improvements:
- 30% reduction in test management efforts—Automated testing processes and standardized templates streamlined operations, cutting down the time and resources required for test management.
- 30-40% reduction in defect leakage—By identifying and addressing defects earlier in the development lifecycle, we minimized defect leakage at the system integration testing (SIT) and user acceptance testing (UAT) levels, ensuring higher-quality outputs.
- Zero critical production defects—The establishment of a skilled testing team and the adoption of best practices eliminated critical defects in production environments.
- 40-50% increase in efficiency—The creation of reusable testing templates and the implementation of standardized processes significantly boosted overall testing efficiency.
The transformation of its testing operations helped the bank enhance product quality, reduce time to market, and significantly improve the organization’s overall business performance.
