Case Study
Aptia Group seamlessly migrated 300 applications to AWS, reduced testing effort by 80% with UST QE360 AI test automation
OUR CLIENT
Aptia Group is a global provider of pension and benefits administration solutions, offering enrollment, data integration, operations support, and other ancillary services. Delivering reliable, scalable, technology-driven solutions, the company supports millions of individuals and 1,000+ organizations across Europe and North America.
THE CHALLENGE
Reducing migration risks and ensuring compliance during large-scale application transition to AWS
Aptia Group was formed after a spin-off. As a result, it needed to quickly migrate more than 300 applications from data centers operated by its former parent organization to a secure, scalable AWS cloud environment—before contracts expired. The scale and complexity of this lift and shift migration to AWS presented these significant challenges:
- Significant gaps in test assets and system documentation—requiring teams to reconstruct validation scenarios from scratch
- Limited access to legacy environments and subject matter experts—making it difficult to design and test real-world business processes
- Complex data migration—including the scrubbing and anonymizing of 100+ databases
- Aggressive, shifting testing timelines—that heightened the risk of incomplete testing and potential disruptions to business continuity during the migration
- Minimal test automation and reusable scripts—preventing rapid, repeated validations across multiple migration waves and application ecosystems
- Multi-vendor coordination—which added complexity to planning, execution, and governance
Aptia Group required a partner to lead the testing for this mission-critical enterprise cloud migration strategy to ensure data integrity, compliance, and service reliability for millions of end users.
THE TRANSFORMATION
AI-powered AWS migration testing with UST QE360 platform
UST led the end-to-end testing effort, validating that every migrated application performed as intended in the AWS environment. Using UST QE360, an AI-powered continuous quality engineering platform, we applied an intelligent, automation-first approach to accelerate validation cycles, enhance test coverage, and reduce human intervention.
By integrating the UST QE360 platform with Aptia Group’s existing systems, the project team had complete visibility to validate applications across migration waves. AI models analyzed knowledge transition recordings to automatically generate test cases, convert them into executable scripts, and create behavior-driven development (BDD) feature files to ensure functional consistency. Leveraging self-healing capabilities, the UST QE360 platform identified and corrected failed test scripts in real time, dramatically improving stability and reducing maintenance overhead.
Functional, integration, and user-acceptance testing were complemented by rigorous performance and security validations using tools such as LoadRunner Cloud and Burp Suite. Data migration testing ensured accuracy, while Azure DevOps and Smartsheet governance dashboards provided real-time visibility into quality metrics, defects, and progress across multiple teams and geographies.
The engagement’s collaborative structure—guided by Aptia Group’s motto “one team, one dream”—brought together cross-functional experts from around the world. This inclusive, transparent approach aligned the UST project team with the company’s business, IT, and compliance groups around shared objectives and ensured proactive risk management throughout the project.
THE IMPACT
3x boost in migration testing productivity and zero post go-live defects
UST QE360’s AI-powered approach enabled Aptia Group to migrate hundreds of applications from on-premises data centers to an AWS cloud environment with peace of mind, giving it a more agile, cost-effective, and sustainable technology foundation going forward. The engagement delivered these measurable results with speed, quality, and efficiency:
- 3x productivity increase—Using agentic AI in testing, the project simplified test design and streamlined validation processes, enabling team members with varying levels of technical expertise to contribute effectively.
- 80% reduction in testing effort—By reducing manual testing tasks, UST QE360 streamlined processes, ensuring that the migration didn’t impact operations.
- 30% decrease in regression testing cycle times—The AI-enabled automated testing solution significantly accelerated testing, helping to keep the project on track to meet the tight timeline.
- Seamless business continuity—End-to-end testing, powered by UST QE360, enabled the company to meet key business deadlines, including the successful rollout of applications in time for the open enrollment period.
- Real-time visibility and governance—Transparent reporting via Smartsheets dashboards enabled proactive decision-making and stakeholder alignment.
Aptia Group now has a solid technology foundation to effectively provide millions of people with critical pension and benefits services. The AWS cloud environment also positions the company to deliver a wide range of modern digital services with a responsive, customer-first approach.
